Guest Bedroom - Happy One Year Anniversary!

Wow! What a transformation our guest room has made over the past year. It is hard to believe that this room used to be so dark and uninviting. Our guest room is the first completely finished room in our house!
Check out the before picture:
Here's the room before the new lamp, painted table, and new pillow. The last finished touches really made a difference.
After: Here's our finished guest room, aka April's room. Good thing that I finished it today, considering she moves in tomorrow. How's that for timing? :)
I love my new white pillow! (I heart Home Goods!)

I love my mom's painting and my painted thrift store chair!
My thrift store "A" hanging on April's closet door.
I had to remove ALL of the paint to repaint my childhood nightstand. It looks good now!
I am really proud of how this room turned out! I am so happy that Hessie will get to enjoy it!

CCA, Garage Sales, and Home Goods = JOY!

A few weeks ago, I took a trip to CCA and I spent $10.00 on a few random things for the house. I purchased... a tea cup shelf for Kelly ($4.00), a basket ($2.00), an ice bucket ($0.50), small wood crafty things ($1.50) and an A ($0.50).

I used the basket to hold all of my dish towels above my fridge.
Eventually I will decorate this A for April's closet. More to come on that later.
At Home Goods, my favorite store, I spent my birthday gift card from Hessy on this cute silver and white lamp for her room. All I have left to do is paint the side table.
On this same weekend, Marcelo, Kelly, and I piled into the front seat of my truck and went to some garage sales. I bought a stool that I am going to redo for a gift ($7.00), a nice craft storage container ($3.00), a hanging pole for a closet ($2.00), and two picture frames ($1.50 and $0.50).
I spray-painted the black frame white.
Also, I spray-painted a cream picture frame I already had.
The picture frames look cute in my bedroom's bedside bookshelf. I framed this first picture of myself to remind me of the goal I am working towards: being healthy and happy.
This little cluster of pictures looks cute too!
It is almost our one year anniversary with our home. I plan on celebrating by giving the house a good cleaning and taking some "after" shots of our beautiful home!

Paint + Fabric = Magic

I love to save money and get a good deal! Check out these transformations for our Hessie's room!

I bought two chairs from CCA for $16.00 each. I made one of the chairs white for the guest room and the other chair is pink and white for the study/craft room. They are precious and I love how they turned out.

This black wrought iron artwork was the perfect for above the bed, so I spray-painted it white.

Before...

After...I couldn't find fabric that worked for the bed's pillows. I found four napkins at Target and the shirt I found in my closet. The pillows match perfectly and look really cute!

After... I already had this picture frame, but it no longer worked for the guest room. A little white spray-paint turned it into a perfect frame.

April's Room (The Guest Room)

My best friend and college roommate, Hessie (April), is coming to live with John and I this summer. We are thrilled to have her live with us and I am already mourning the fact that this with probably be the last time I live with her. John and I talk about Hessie coming all the time. John refers to her as "our summer vacation". I can't wait!

Well, I couldn't let Hessie sleep in our previous guest room, it wasn't special enough. For my birthday, John let me redo the guest room. I got a new quilt, curtains, and some art work. We painted the walls a light and cheery blue. I painted and reupholstered a chair too. It looks great now and John calls it "the best room in the house".

All I have left to do is get a new lamp for the bedside table and give the bedside table a fresh coat of paint.
